Are the UK and Ireland part of the EU interconnected gas infrastructure for ISCC EU purposes?

Modified on Tue, 9 Jun at 5:11 PM

No. Based on current understanding, neither the UK nor Ireland are considered part of the EU interconnected gas infrastructure. Recent clarification from the European Commission indicates that both the UK and Ireland are not part of the same EU interconnected gas system.

As a result, the UK, Ireland, and the EU must be treated as separate mass balance systems. Where biomethane is transferred from the UK and Ireland into the EU gas grid, this must be done via gas nomination at a cross-border entry point, and separate mass balances must be maintained.
