Does on-site CO₂ liquefaction at the Point of Origin or RED-certified Processing Unit require certification?

Modified on Tue, 18 Aug at 3:41 PM

On-site CO₂ liquefaction at the Point of Origin or RED-certified Processing Unit does not require certification under the proposed ISCC approach, where the CO₂ is generated and liquefied at the same Point of Origin or RED-certified Processing Unit before entering the downstream certified supply chain.

The liquefaction activity, quantities, losses and GHG emissions must still be documented and verified. The Point of Origin or RED-certified Processing Unit may then forward the liquefied CO₂ with the applicable self-declaration or Sustainability Declaration, respectively.

For more information, see ISCC EU 203 – Traceability and Chain of Custody, sections 3.4.5 and 3.4.9, and ISCC EU 202-5 – Waste and Residues, sections 4.2 – 4.3.
